You can pay quarterly bills by debit or credit card. This payment method offers convenience and customers have a variety of ways to pay. Customers can pay online, by SMS text message, by phone or the British Gas smartphone app with their debit or credit card. To do so, have your bill at hand so that you can notify customer services of your account number.
British Gas – Pay by internet banking
If you use internet banking (on your computer or your mobile), you can pay your British Gas bills this way. To do so, use your Customer Reference Number as the payment reference (in the top right-hand corner of your bill/statement – it starts with 85). This is very important as it is the only way British Gas knows that you have made payment. The bank details you require are:
- >Sort code: 40-05-30
- Account number: 71584685
British Gas – Pay by post
To pay by post, you should send British Gas a cheque. British Gas cannot accept cash. Send your cheque to:
British Gas, Payment Area 55, Camberley GU95 1AB.
Write your cheque for the total amount owed as you would any other cheque, and write your customer reference number (in the top right-hand corner of your bill/statement – it starts with 85) on the back of the cheque. British Gas says that cheques usually take 5 working days to reach them so always bear this in mind if you owe a payment soon.
British Gas – Pay by Post Office, bank or PayPoint outlet
You can pay your bills with the Post Office, your bank or within a PayPoint outlet (these are often at newsagents). You can pay by cheque or cash at these places. Remember to tear off your payment slip from your British Gas bill when handing over the cheque or cash and in the case of cheques, include your customer reference number on the back.
